When my parents retired to Chimney Mills in 1968, Wendy and Brian were already there and welcomed them to "the patch". My sister went on living there after my parents died, and she became severely disabled and housebound. We owe them both an enormous debt for their unstinting kindness and generosity: they went way beyond being just good neighbours, despite their own health problems. Brian ferried meals and Wendy was always on call when Anne fell, the cat needed feeding, or the myriad other catastrophes that occurred. They were saints.
